Who is she?
Hillary Clinton is anAmerican politician, who has served as the Secretary of State, a New York Senator and is now a Democratic candidate for the 2016 Presidential election. She was also First Lady of the US from 1993 to 2001.
Hillary was far from the traditional First Lady – she had an office at the West Wing (the first, and only First Lady to do so) and was involved closely in campaign strategy for her husband. While she endured plenty of scandal, many one of the key factors in Bill Clinton’s success was Hillary as his partner.
As Secretary of State, she worked tirelessly to get keep women’s issues on the forefront and, importantly, ensured that foreign policy and women’s rights were examined together.
Clinton proudly calls herself a feminist, as she explains to Lena Dunham in this great interview.
Why should we thank her?
Hillary is a major role model for young women who want to enter law or politics – she’s been a trailblazer her entire life. She may just be the first woman to be US President. Given the possible alternative, let’s hope she gets there.
“If I want to knock a story off the front page I just change my hairstyle.”
Hillary won a Grammy in 1996 for Best Spoken Word Album, for her book It Takes a Village.
