A Feminist a Day: Elizabeth Broderick

Who is she? 

liz-broderick-profileElizabeth Broderick is the former Australian Sex Discrimination Commissioner, who finished her eight year term in the role late last year.

Elizabeth trained as a lawyer, and has spoken out about her own experience of being sexually harassed as a young lawyer. She was also the first lawyer at her firm to work part-time.

In her role as Sex Discrimination Commissioner, Elizabeth has raised awareness about many important issues and pushed for change in areas like women’s leadership, equal pay, pregnancy discrimination, domestic violence and sexual harassment in the workplace.

Among her biggest achievements were her work on the national paid parental leave scheme, and her review of the Australian Defence Force and its treatment of women.

Why should we thank her?

Elizabeth has worked tirelessly to keep gender inequality issues at the forefront of the national agenda for the past eight years.
