A Feminist a Day: Madonna

Who is she?

madonnaSinger, actor, fashion and cultural icon. Madonna is one of the most famous and influential women in modern history.

From early on in her career, Madonna asserted herself as a star. She was an instant icon for millions of young women (and men) and a generation (or two) have grown up worshiping her every move.

As well as her incredible success as a singer and performer, Madonna has carved out a respectable acting career (she’s awesome in A League of Their Own and Evita).

She’s also a businesswoman, a mother and someone seriously not to be messed with – if you don’t believe me, watch In Bed With Madonna. She’s powerful and in control. Such a great role model. I love her (as if it wasn’t already obvious).

Why should we thank her?

Madonna encouraged all women to stand up for themselves, embrace their sexuality, be their own boss and push the boundaries. Is there anything she can’t do?
